A classroom moment can look small to the people watching and stay with a learner for years.
In this ANM lived-experience reflection, a name was misspelled and a moment of difference became exposure. It is a reminder that reading, writing and public correction are never only about the task in front of us. They can touch identity, safety and belonging.
Challenge should not become humiliation
Teachers do not need to avoid correction or pretend that learning is effortless. But correction can be private, specific and kind. We can give learners time, choose words carefully and make room for more than one way to participate.
A better question
When a learner seems to be struggling, ask “What would make this more accessible?” before deciding that they are careless, lazy or not trying. That question can change the whole tone of a classroom.
